Case Study | ADD Series | Transfer of 3,000 cP Viscous Liquid from Drum

Client: Steel Manufacturing Company
Application: Transfer of high-viscosity paint from drum
Model: ADD-25-AL (Air Diaphragm Pump)

Other manufacturers’ pumps stop quickly

A steel manufacturer in Hokkaido contacted us, reporting that an air diaphragm pump from Manufacturer Y stopped working shortly after installation.

Upon detailed inquiry, they needed to transfer a liquid with a viscosity of around 3,000 cP from a drum at a rate of approximately 25 L/min.

The discharge side included a horizontal run of 2 meters and a vertical lift of 1 meter (with a resin filter in between), while the suction side was about 1 meter horizontally.

Since our air diaphragm pumps have a solid track record under such conditions, we provided a demo unit. It performed well, and the customer proceeded with the order.

Unlike other brands, the internal structure is unique

There are two key differences between our ADD model and pumps from other manufacturers — both are critical for handling high-viscosity fluids:

  1. Two diaphragms are used on each side (total of four), providing strong resistance to both vacuum and pressure.
  2. A wide range of materials is available for the discharge/suction balls, and the valve seat ensures excellent sealing performance.

These features allow our pump to handle higher viscosity and temperature compared to other models.

In this case, the customer was highly satisfied and later placed a repeat order for two additional units of the same model.
